Summary

The Moshie National Lean Leaders Program (TU21002) was established to build leadership capability and drive continuous improvement within the Australian turf industry. Delivered online across 2022 to 2024, the program successfully engaged 16 participants - exceeding its original target of 12 due to strong demand and positive outcomes. The training comprised ten structured, four hour workshops, culminating in participants presenting practical Continuous Improvement (CI) plans tailored to their workplaces. The program directly supported the Turf Industry Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) Outcome 3, Strategy 3- enhancing skills and leadership to enable proactive, evidence-based business and industry decisions on investment, priorities, and risk management

Participants reported a range of benefits, including improved waste management, clearer team roles, stronger communication, enhanced confidence in performance management, increased delegation and restructuring to afford time to focus on business improvement and leadership, and a better understanding of team dynamics. They also noted boosting of productivity through task mapping, greater self-awareness of leadership capabilities and opportunities, and a stronger ability to implement process improvements. These learnings directly translate to more productive, efficient, and adaptive businesses across the turf industry.

Since its national rollout, Moshie’s Lean Leaders program has been delivered across all Australian states and supported by multiple Hort Innovation R&D projects, with over 250 horticulture professionals trained to date.
